Instructional Methods, Models, and ModesThere are three aspects to instructional delivery: method, model, and mode. These factors combine to create powerful course presentation for both traditional education and online distance learning. Some instructional methods are lecture, class interaction, and discussion. Instructional models are based on partially on class size; some are tutorial, independent study, and group learning. Course content is fairly static, although some methods of interaction or assessment may change from model to model. The instructional model(s) chosen have impact on how the competency-based course curriculum is presented. Mode of instruction is concerned with how instruction is delivered: live classroom delivery, textbooks, cassettes, are used in addition to online distance learning and hybrid delivery. Some methods lend themselves to certain formats; for instance, storytelling and demonstrations can be made available on video. Online distance learning often starts as combination of text and audio-visual presentation; if the instructor so chooses, technical conference facilities are also appropriate for interactive discussion or collaboration. - Page 2 of 5 - ©2002 Ormer Technologies
