The Storm have not recovered from their devastating extra-inning loss to the Knights. After a 4-0 start, they've dropped three straight. Last night, a 14-3 drubbing by the Capitals at the Bandbox. Mike Scott, Sid Fernandez and Dennis Eckersley were hammered, and doing most of the hammerin' was Hammerin' Hank Aaron (4-4, 4 HR's, 8 RBI's). The Caps have scored 63 runs in 7 games for a whopping 9 runs/game average (editor's note: I'm getting pretty sick of all the home runs - again). Speaking of Eckerskley, he's pitched 2 innings, allowing 5 hits - four of which have been solo homeruns. He was relegated to mop-up duty last night and surrendered Aaron's fourth dinger.
My team was held to 6 hits by Jack "Cheese-Puff" Chesbro and the light-hitting Rockets. Another fine performance by fourth starter Jim Palmer was wasted when a seventh-inning error by Eddie Collins allowed the go-ahead run to reach second base. Said run later scored on a single by Ken (I'm not Ted) Williams off Mike Cuellar. Another tough loss for the Sox, 3-2.
The Knights were two-hit for the second consecutive game, this time by the Aero's Vida Blue (the previous masterpiece was pitched by the Sox' Walter Johnson). Aeros pulled to .500 with a convincing 6-1 victory, topping Knight's emergency starter Jim Maloney.
