It's good with Hine Rare. It's good with Rittenhouse Rye. It's good with bourbon. It's just good. Also, if you make it 1:1 spirit:creme de cacao and leave the rest unchanged or drop the bitters, it is good over crushed ice in a collins glass. But I prefer this on a single big ice cube in a lowball.
Collectively, we thought of names including velvet, possibly invoking the Notorious RBG (wearing a black robe, a la the Benedictines), a Chocolate D.O.M., a Groggy Monk, Bittersweet Life. But Chocolate Benny Rabbit names two (or three) ingredients and lets you pull the third one out of a hat.
2 ounces brandy or whisky
1 ounce Tempus Fugit Creme de Cacao
.5 ounce Benedictine
Chocolate Bitters
I added some muddled mint leaves and a sprig of mint and put this over crushed ice. Nice summer drink!
My 2018 New Year's Resolution was to get better at making more drinks consistently.
