Dr. Barbara Deeb's memorial service was held on June 19th at the University of Washington. I had thought of her only as my rat's vet but she had had a very interesting life. She was the first woman to go to Vet school at Colorado State. At that time, no veterinary schools allowed women in because they thought that they would just be wasting time on them because they would just go off and get married, have kids, and never go into practice. Boy did Dr. Deeb ever prove them wrong. She did get married and have kids but she stayed true to her profession and became a great vet as well. Her husband, Samir, is Lebanese and when they were both done with school, they went to live in Lebanon. Dr. Deeb was the only veterinarian who saw people's pets and treated them with great care. She would make house calls to care for their sick animals. She was a great mother, wife, cook, friend, and vet. I only knew her as a vet but I thought she was great just for that. The world will truly miss her.
