The Curse of the Somers

Victory at Sea

The second collection of maritime music from this big shanty chorus (including The Cutters). This is a soundtrack album from the History Channel documentary of the same name. The story concerns the notorius U.S. Brig Somers, the ship that inspired Herman Melville's last novel, Billy Budd.

The musicianship is exquisite... The recording and production efforts are excellent... In the traditional folk category, this album is Grammy material, period.

Songs like this make a lad from the desert southwest want to ship out to sea.

The interpretation of sea songs and shanties is the best I've heard.
