Acoustic show at Fionn MacCool's, Thunder Bay ON 4/21/2001 edited from an ICQ conversation with Susan (sdsx2@earthlink.net). Pictures: Rory Pam & Mitch Pam & Rory The whole trio Boutros & the band They played for about an hour 9:30 - 10:30 and then took a break. They played some more and then, about the 3rd song into the 2nd set Rory announced thay were playing Vessel of Would for me since I had the cd. They dedicated a song to me! A song I really like, too. How cool is THAT?! So at the 2nd set break the guys left the stage to get beers or something and I went up to the stage and wanted to speak to Pam. Pam then called Mitch and Rory over and we all shook hands etc.... I asked if they would sign my CD and they did! Then I asked if I could take a picture as they played and they said ok.... Then Steve took a picture of me and the 3 band members. Then they drifted around to some other tables. By then the place was pretty packed and they weren't letting anyone new into the bar. Then Rory came over and sat with us! We talked about the road trip, the responses they had been getting. How tired they were, etc. He told me about the video they just shot (ed: Buddhamatic).... Then Pam came over.... Then Rory and Pam went back to the stage figure out the last set and Mitch came over. He turned out to be so cool. I bet we talked for 20 minutes: about the road trip, about how he got hooked up with the group and what it is like to hear yourself on the radio and making a video, etc.. It was so interesting. I asked him what is it like to play at a bar when most people weren't paying attention and isn't that annoying? He said that is what you get as a "bar band." There wasn't a cover charge so I guess most people were just out on a Saturday evening. They played the last set and lots of funny people danced. Or maybe lots of people danced funnily. I met a girl from Alabama and she didn't quite fit in with her southern accent, but she was very popular with the guys! ;) Pam even let a guy from the audience sing a folk song. Then things kind of got out of hand, but in a good way! I think it was late... too much beer... a fun crowd, etc... I think they sold a few cds, and Pam thanked me for having mine so she remembered to mention that they had some for sale, etc.. I requested Buddhamatic and they played it. I said it was my favorite song of theirs and that I also liked Vessel of Would. Well, after they finished the last set, Mitch came directly over to me and shook hands, thanked me profusely etc... I said thanks for the music, the signed poster and cd and for letting me take pics. He was so nice. So Mitch went away and we stood up to go. Pam came over and said thanks etc.... and that they would be doing another western tour later this year! :) I think that is the end of my story, (for now). I was VERY impressed with them personally. I have a wonderful impression of all Canadian musicians now. And, I never would have actually met any Canadian Musicians were it not for Brett. You are the greatest. Thanks!! :) (ed: I'm blushing!! Thanks for the report, Sue. That's excellent news that they will be coming out west again!!). |
