Bikesmith is a neighborhood bike shop. We are located in the heart of
Wallingford, two blocks up the hill from Dick's drive-in. We are well situated
to serve the needs of the many cyclists in this pleasant district of Seattle.
There is, however, much more to us than that....
One of the hardest questions we ever have to answer is: "What do you
specialize in , anyway?" The simple and easy answer is that we specialize
in the things that no one else does. This is true, but it is even more true to
say that we don't specialize at all - we will do whatever we can to work with
bicycles.
Many shops today seem to treat bicycles as simply another commodity, and
focus on selling as much as they can at the greatest possible margin.
At Bikesmith, we believe in bicycles. We believe in bicycles as a healthy
form of recreation. We believe in their positive power as a practical form of
transportation, whether this means commuting, cargo hauling, and delivery,
touring, mobility in congested inner cities, or primary transport for those who
cannot operate motor vehicles. We believe in bicycles as a passion - the passion
of the racer, ekeing out every possible bit of speed; the passion of the
collector, restoring the bike he rode as a child forty years ago; the passion of
the homebuilding tinkerer, putting together a chopper or a recumbent such as no
one has ever seen. We believe in bicycles as a triumphant example of elegant
engineering and efficiency. We believe in bicycles as art. We believe in making
bicycling possible for everyone who wants it.
In order to do this, we sell new bikes and used bikes, used parts
and new parts. We service any human powered vehicle that will benefit from our
skills, and we consider custom jobs a welcome challenge. We do our utmost to
make each machine as comfortable and efficient as possible for its particular
rider. We have bicycling guide maps of the immediate area, and a wide
variety of accessories and strategies for dealing with vagaries of traffic
and weather. We are always willing to answer questions to the best of our
ability. We want you to be riding, and happy with your bike.
In the pages that follow, you will find details of some of the machines we
offer, and the services we can perform. You will also find some images of a few
of the more striking and unusual things we have built or worked on. Bear
in mind that these are mainly suggestive highlights, and there will always be
much that never shows up on the web.
Feel free to call us with any questions or requests, or come see us in
actual reality, as even JavaScript cannot translate free coffee and ginger snaps to
cyberspace.
God speed, and keep the rubber side down.
