Separate Letters From I.W.Odekirk

Lomita, California.  Dec. 25th 1937, This poem I wrote and sent to the nurses at the L.D.S. Hospital, Salt Lake, Utah,  as a Christmas greeting to them.

The Nurses

Just a Christmas greeting,
To a girl all dressed in white,
Who seems to be an angel
As I dream of her at night.

And one thinks I see you coming
With thermometer to start,
Taking my temperature
And the beating of my heart.

And again I see you coming
With some water in a pan,
And you sponge my fevered brow,
And gently bath my hand.

And soon I hear your foot steps,
Bringing my breakfast on a tray
And a list for me to check,
Of the things I want next day.

And presently I see you come
And move the dishes from my bed,
And then you start to rub me
From my feet up to my head.

And then you move me over,
And change the linen white.
How refreshing this all makes me
And everything seems, Oh!  so bright.

So it is not surprising
That I got well so quick,
With a girl like you to nurse me
When I was so very sick.
