odds & ends

Let's take a brief break from rigorous structure and order. These are photos that didn't really fit well into any particular catagory, but are included on the site just because we felt like they ought to be here somewhere. Enjoy!

Here we are in Central Park with the conservancy fountain back behind us. This part of the park was under renovation while we were there, so this was as close as we could get to the fountain.

This is Columbus Circle, in the middle of which is a statue of Christopher Columbus. Coïncidence? I think not.

Okay, now you're gonna have to bear with me. My compulsion to include this picture is one of those things that won't make the slightest bit of sense to most people.

One of my favorite dark comedy movies is called "After Hours," starring Griffin Dunne. It's about one night in the life of an average New York guy in which all forces of the universe conspire to make his existence a total, living hell. I am literally the only person I know who actually likes this movie, so please don't construe its mention here as a recommendation. (I have long since ceased recommending movies to people for precisely this reason: Most people hate the movies I like.) At any rate, there's a point in After Hours where Griffin Dunne's character meets a neurotic woman with a severe inferiority complex. This woman makes a living driving a Mister Softee truck.

That's it. That's why this picture is here. I told you it wouldn't make sense...

Sometime during our wanderings we happened by Madison Square Garden. We actually intended to go to a New York Liberty (WNBA) game while we were in town, but unfortunately, were unable to work it into our schedule.

On our way back to Amy & Whit's one night after a busy day of sightseeing, we spied this Indian restaurant called the Sapphire, and decided to try it. The food was very tasty and plentiful. This was taken before dinner was served. We were considerably larger afterward.
