Unit 731: What really happened?
Japans search for Biological Warfare began in 1921 when they heard about Chemical and Biological/Germ Warfare at the Naval conference that came out of World War I. Both seemed cheap ways to wage war.
In 1935 when Japan took over Manchuria, Shiro Ishii set up his headquarters ,south of Harbin at Pinfang, for developing diseases for use against the Chinese. They were eventually tested against people and used against the Chinese in war. Everything that Ishii did at Pinfang is in dispute as they destroyed as much as they could at the end of the war.
The US covered it up at the end of the war and gave Ishii and his men freedom in exchange for the data on Biological Warfare. They should have been tried as Class-A War Criminals, but they were not.
After the war the US used the information it obtained from Ishii and others in Unit 731. The book "Biology of Doom" presents how it was used and the state of Americas Bio-Warfare
