Some say the Warren Commission was right, Oswald killed Kennedy alone. Others see a conspiracy but can't lock it down to who the real assassins were. A friend of mine likens it to a UFO report. If Oswald did it alone, why are there so many inconsistencies in the evidence. If he had come to trial, he would have gotten off on a number of simple, basic police procedure screwups.
I think that like all murders it comes down to Means, Motive, and Opportunity.
Oswald fails on all but the last, and that by shear luck. If Ruth Paine hadn't found him the job at the School Book Depository he would not have been in place on November 22nd. Some say he was looking for a job on Main St. before the parade route was locked down.
I think he may have shot at the motorcade but with the lousy rifle/ammunition he had, he couldn't hit the side of a barn. If he shot at Walker then that also proves it. He couldn't hit a slowmoving human from 100 ft. but he hits a person in a car from 500 ft. Give me a break!
If Oswald didn't kill Kennedy who did? Oswald was the perfect patsy. An avowed Communist who wanted to go to Cuba. Who renounced his citizenship in Russia...If he didn't do it alone then it must be Russia or Castro, each could lead to World War III if it even looks like it's possible. This is the Cold War, just after the Cuban Missile Crisis. So we must bury it, muddy the water, and deluge the researchers, who we know will come later, with tons of paper. Red Herrings are chased and the truth is hidden....
But all murder comes down to Means, Motive, and Opportunity.
What if JFKs brother was chasing your friends. What if JFK said he would fire you if he was reelected. What if all your friends thought he was a Communist. What if one of your friends was next in line so that you would know things would be ok if JFK was gone. Wouldn't some of it be traced back to you? Not if you ran the investigation. Running it you could clear any trails that lead back to you. It would be perfect. Everyone would get what they want with one act. The perfect crime. But not really a crime as he was an enemy of the United States. It would be patriotic to do it.
