He died on 23 Feb 1916 in Port Clinton, Ottawa, Ohio. The cause of death was pneumonia. He was buried in Port Clinton, Ohio, Lakeview Cemetery.
Extensive Obituary begins "Port Clinton's Most Prominent Citizen, Called by Death" Oberlin College, two years. returned to farming in Danbury, 17 years on Port Clinton Board of Education, Member of Village Council, twice elected to Ohio House of Representatives. May also have been State Senator. (personal effects in the possession of Paul C. Moon indicate a campaign ribbon with subject's likness stating Wm. Kelly for Senator) Sponsored legislation establishing the new Ottawa County Court House in Port Clinton and not Oak Harbor, and was chairman of the Court house Building Committee.
William married 1 Laura Lockwood [scrapbook] daughter of Edward Jared Lockwood and Lydia Ramsdell on 27 Mar 1859 in Danbury, Ottawa, Ohio. Laura was born on 1 Mar 1840 in Plasterbed, Portage Twp, Ottawa, Ohio. She died on 25 Aug 1913 in Port Clinton, Ottawa, Ohio. She was buried in Port Clinton, Ohio, Lakeview Cemetery.
Lockwood Farm is now East Harbor State Park. Our little Laura is named for this lady.

Circuit Judge serving Ottawa, Erie, Huron and Sandusky County, becoming Ottawa County's first permanent Common Pleas Judge, serving from 1891 to 1898.. Family oral tradition has it that he was working with a wood plane on the tongue of an orchard wagon and cut off his knee cap. As he was of no use on the farm, they sent him to Oberlin College and then the University of Michigan Law School, but then his brother William also attended Oberlin.

Lived the last 12 years of her life in seclusion with her sister Elisabeth in Miami, Florida, never returning to Boston to receive the accolades for her scholarship. Died February, 1962.
