Publishing using FrontPage 2000
- Make sure you are connected to the Internet and then open FrontPage.
- Click on File and then Open Web to open the Web you've created on your desktop.
- The Look in field will then prompt you to browse to the Web folder you have created on your computer.
- Select the Web that you would like to publish and click on Open in the lower right hand corner of the screen.
Once you click on Open, your Web site and all files and folders contained therein will appear in a list.
- Now click on File and then Publish Web.
- Enter the full URL of your Web site: http://www.yourdomain.com
- Then click Publish.
- You'll be prompted for your username and password. Type these into the appropriate fields, click OK, and FrontPage
will being to publish your Web site. Depending on the size of your Web site and the rate of your Internet connection,
this process may take awhile. Once the site is successfully published you should receive a "Web site published successfully!"
message from FrontPage.
Troubleshooting Tips:
- If you have trouble entering your username and password:
Do you receive the same username and password box when you try to login? If so, you are entering an incorrect username
and password combination. Please double check this information and re-enter it. You can also check with us for verification.
- If you have trouble with the actual transfer of files from your computer to Seanet's servers: Your dial up connection
may be timing out if the publishing box hangs and does not appear to advance in transferring files. Please check with
our technical support staff to make sure your Internet configuration is correct.
- If you are receiving an error that states:
Server Error: Cannot rename "D:\webs\websites\yourdomain.com\yourfolder\yourfile.htm\"
or
Server Error: Web is busy. Please try again.
you've encountered the "cannot rename" bug. This is a known bug in the FrontPage 2000 server extensions. In this case
you'll need to try publishing using the "drag and drop" method or "import" method (see below).
- If you have trouble viewing your site:
Be sure your homepage is called either index.html or index.htm. If your homepage is not labeled one of those names,
you will not be able to see your site. You also need to be sure the homepage file is in the root directory. This means
that the homepage file should be located directly under the <http://www.yourcomain.com> root folder. Do
not keep your homepage located in a folder within your directory. The homepage file must remain outside of all your
folders.
Publishing Using the "Drag and Drop" or "Import" Methods
- Make sure you are connected to the Internet and then open the FrontPage program on your computer.
- Click on File and then click Open Web.
- At the bottom of the screen under the field Folder name: enter the full URL for your Web site (e.g., <http://www.yourdomain.com>).
Once you've done this, click on Open.
- You'll then be prompted for your username and password. Please enter this information in the appropriate fields.
- To upload the files using the drag and drop method, you'll need to open up Windows Explorer. Click on Start then
Programs then Windows Explorer and browse to the drive and folder in which your Web site files are located.
- In Windows Explorer, left click on the file(s) that you would like to upload (you may select multiple files at a time
by holding down the Shift key when you left click on each of the files), hold down the mouse button, and drag the
files into your <http://www.yourdomain.com> folder. This will publish your files as they will now be placed
in your Web site root directory! Now click save.
- After this you can work on your published site and save the changes online using the FrontPage editor. Simply make the
changes you wish, click Save and the changes are saved to your live Web site! You need not republish the pages
you have uploaded each time you make a change.
You may also publish using the import feature which allows you to choose files on your local computer that you wish
to upload while logged into your <http://www.yourdomain.com> remote Web site directory with FrontPage.
- Once you've logged into your FrontPage account in the manner described above, click on File and then Import.
- To add a file to your import list (the list of files you would like to upload) click on Add File ... You may
now browse to your Web site files stored on your local computer using the down arrow to the right of the Look in:
field. Select the files you wish to upload by clicking on them (you may select multiple files by holding down the Shift
key while clicking).
- Once you've selected the files you wish to upload, click on Open. A screen will appear which shows you the list
of files in the queue to be published. Click on OK to publish these files to your remote Web site root directory,
<http://www.yourdomain.com>.
Troubleshooting Tips:
- You are most likely to receive the following error messages:
"The Web server at "http://www.yourdomain.com" does not appear to have the FrontPage server extensions installed."
or
"The server you are publishing to does not have the FrontPage Server Extensions installed, and therefore does not support
publishing via HTTP. To continue publishing, specify a location that will work with FTP."
If you receive either of these error messages, please close all applications open on your computer, disconnect from
the Internet, and restart your computer. Once your computer is back up, reconnect to the Internet and try publishing
your pages again. If you receive the same error message, please contact our technical support team so that we can have
the FrontPage extensions on your account reinstalled as they may have become corrupted.
- If you are having trouble entering your username and password:
Please verify that you are using the correct username and password combination and re-enter this information. If the
username and password you're entering matches the Seanet information you've been given and you still receive this error,
please contact our technical support team.
- If you are having trouble viewing your site:
Please make sure that your homepage is labeled either index.html or index.htm and that it is in the root directory.
This means that the homepage file should be located directly under the <http://www.yourdomain.com> root
folder. Do not keep your homepage in a folder within your directory. The homepage file must remain outside of all your
folders.
