When you open Pegasus for the first time, you will get a message asking how you plan to use Pegasus: One person checking mail on the computer, more than one person using the mail program on the same computer, or if one person has more than one e-mail addresses, and the final option of being used by multiple people on a network. Choose the one that fits your needs (you can change later). These instructions describe how to set it up for one e-mail address.

Click on the icon with one computer and one person.


Windows 95 Users

If you are using Windows 95, you may get a message about an error you may get if you are using a Novell Netware file server. Click OK.


Using WINSOCK.DLL

Are you using WINSOCK.DLL? You will want to click Yes.


Pegasus Mail Options and Preference Settings

You may also get to this screen by clicking on Tools and then Options. You should be in the Network Configuration section (marked on the left).

  • POP3 host: pop.seanet.com
  • User name: username (1st part of your e-mail address before the @)
  • Password: (Your Seanet password)
  • SMTP host: mx.seanet.com

Click on Advanced configuration options...


Advanced Configuration for Built-in Internet Mailer

TCP/IP timeout value (maximum wait time) should be changed to 60

Under Outgoing (SMTP) mail, the following should be checked:

  • Send mail at once without placing in queue
  • Use for all outgoing mail, regardless of address
  • Send any mail in the queue during idle checks

Incoming (POP3) mail should have the following entered/ marked:

  • Connect to POP3 server in TCP port 110
  • Do not download mail larger than 0 KB
  • Check for new POP3 mail every 100 secs idle
  • Allow checks when WinPMail is minimized
  • Delete mail from host once successfully retrieved
  • Check whenever the new mail folder is opened

Click OK.

Back at the Options and Preference Settings screen, click on General Settings.


General Settings

There are a couple fields to fill in and some boxes to check.

  • Personal name (shown in your address): Fill in your full name as you wish it to appear on mail messages
  • Default reply address: username@seanet.com

Options that should be checked are:

  • Open new mail folder at startup
  • Preserve deleted messages until exit
  • Ask for confirmation before deleting
  • Leave read new mail in new mail folder
  • Save desktop state between sessions
