A straight through ethernet cable should connect the bridge to the computer. If the bridge
is working and the line is good, all the lights on the Westel should be solid green, except
for the activity LED. Special PPP-over-Ethernet (PPPoE) software is necessary to connect
to Seanet using the Westel DSL Bridge.
There are many differnet PPPoE clients that you can use.
Windows XP (Home or Professional)
Windows XP comes with support for PPPoE. In order to set up a connection on XP, you simply
use the Wizard.
Windows 2000/NT or ME/98SE/98/95
A PPPoE adapter is available at: http://www.raspppoe.com.
If you are using any version of Windows other than XP, we highly recommend that you use this software
(RASPPPOE). If you're running Windows 98 SE, you'll want to download
this fix for NDIS from Microsoft as well.
Seanet provides limited Technical Support for this software.
Macintosh OS X
Mac OS X has native support for PPPOE. Here is how to set up OS X for
PPPoE.
Macintosh 7.6 or better
MacPoET is PPPoE Software that will run on Macintosh computers
running OS 7.6 or better.
Linux
The best Linux PPPoE client is made by
Roaring Penguin. Seanet doesn't provide Tech Support
for Linux. (We heartily recommend Slackware if you're
going to do it, though.)
Windows (all versions), Mac, and Linux
All of the above software is free and not Seanet specific. Alternatively, you can use Enternet
300, from Efficient Networks. Efficient Networks
charges for this software, which is available in a variety of packages. If you will be using
NT 4.0, especially Server, we recommend Enternet.
