Cisco 605 Configuration for Qwest DSL

There are four steps to configure a PC to connect using the Cisco 605 DSL PCI card.

  1. Install the Cisco 605 card in the computer. (Follow the instructions that came with the card. If you experience difficulties installing the card, please conctact Qwest.)
  2. Install the PPP driver software.
  3. Configure Dial-up Networking to establish the connection.
  4. To connect, dial as you would with a modem connection.

Installing the PPP driver software

  1. With the Cisco 605 card installed, turn the computer on.
  2. Windows 95/98 should detect the card (NT won't detect it).
  3. Click Next to start the Add New Hardware Wizard.
  4. Win 95: Select Driver from disk or Other Location.
    Win 95: Put the Cisco 605 CD in the CD drive.
    Win 95: Use the following for the path or Specified Location: <CD Drive letter>:\ppp\win95

    Win 98: Select Search for the best driver and click Next.
    Win 98: Put the Cisco 605 CD in the CD drive and select Specify a location.
    Win 98: Use the following for the path: <CD Drive letter>:\ppp\win98

  5. The computer will copy files, etc. and then click Finish.
  6. Reboot the computer when prompted.

Configuring Dial-up Networking

  1. Double Click on My Computer
  2. Double Click on Dial-up Networking
  3. Double Click on Make a new connection
  4. Name the connection "Seanet DSL". Select the Cisco 605 - LineX for the modem (The X is a number 0,1, or 2 ... there will only be one Cisco 605 anyway.) and click Next.
  5. Put the number 1 (one) in for the Telephone number (no area code).
  6. Click Next, then Finish.
  7. Right click on the new icon in Dial-up Networking and select Properties.
  8. Uncheck the Use area code and Dialing properties, or Use country code and area code check box.
  9. Click on Server Types (either a button or a tab)
    • Type of Dial-Up Server should be PPP, Windows ... etc., etc.
    • Of all the check boxes only Enable software compression and TCP/IP should be checked.
  10. Click on the TCP/IP Settings button.
    • Select Server assigned IP address
    • Specify the name servers: 199.181.164.1, 199.181.164.2
    • Uncheck Use IP header compression.
    • Check Use default gateway.
