MacTCP Control Panel

Web www.seanet.com
  1. Select MacTCP from the Control Panels section under the Apple menu.
    • You will see a panel with several icons, including PPP (or FreePPP), LocalTalk, maybe EtherTalk or SLIP as well. These icons represent the possible network connections you have available. Click on the PPP (or FreePPP) icon.
    • Underneath that is a section labeled IP Address. You can ignore this for now; we'll come back to it later.

  2. Click the More... button.
    1. Now you'll see the main MacTCP panel. We'll go through it one step at a time.
    2. In the upper left, under the heading Obtain Address:, select Manually.
    3. In the lower left, under the heading Routing Information: Gateway Address:, type in: 0.0.0.0
    4. Now change the Obtain Address: selection from Manually to Server.
    5. In the upper right, under the heading IP Address:, Class A should be selected. Do not change anything in this area.
    6. In the lower right, under the heading Domain Name Server Information, in the column headed Domain, type: seanet.com
    7. In the column headed IP Address, type: 199.181.164.1
    8. Click the default button on the right.
    9. On the second line, in the column headed Domain, type . That's right, just a period. On the second line, in the column headed IP Address, type: 199.181.164.1
    10. Do not click the default button on the second line.
    11. On the third line, in the column headed Domain, type another period. In the column headed IP Address, type: 199.181.164.2
    12. Do not click the default button on the third line.
    13. Your Domain Name Server information should look like this:
      seanet.com 199.181.164.1 (default)
      . 199.181.164.1
      . 199.181.164.2
    14. Click the OK button in the lower left.

  3. Now you are back to MacTCP's first panel. The IP Address is defaulted to: 0.0.0.0 This is correct. Now you can close MacTCP. If you have not already done so, you will want to now configure your PPP program. Under the Apple Menu, in the Control Panels, you should find either PPP or ConfigPPP. If you have neither of these, on your hard drive you should find FreePPP.
