FreePPP Control Panel

Web www.seanet.com

For people using a Macintosh who have purchased the Internet Starter Kit, or have downloaded FreePPP 2.5.

  1. First thing you want is to have FreePPP installed on your Mac. Follow the instructions in your book or simply run the download file to install FreePPP. After doing this, you'll want to go into the Apple Menu and then into Control Panel and select FreePPP.

NOTE: Once this is open, if you only have a window that has the Connect button, Connect to:, and From:, then you need to click on the little triangle that is in the lower left hand corner of the screen, that is pointing towards the From: line. If this is already expanded, the arrow should be pointing down and you will have some tabs in the lower half of the window.

  2. From the General tab:
    • The following should be selected:
      • Allow applications to open connection
      • Check line every X seconds
      • Allow alerts during connection
    • You do not want the following selected:
      • Disconnect if idle for X minutes
      • On connect, open FreePPP setup application
      • Open application on connect... (optional, but not recommended)

  3. Now click, Modem Setup.
This screen has FreePPP Modem Setup at the top.
These are the settings you want:
    • Connected to the: Modem Port
    • Dial Type: Tone or Pulse
    • Modem Speaker on while connecting (if you want)
    • (not marked) Long re-dial delay
    • Hang up on disconnect
    • Under Modem Init String Settings:
      • Use: (leave this blank)

  4. Click OK. You should be back to the General tab now.
    Click on Accounts.

  5. Select New...

The information you want to enter is:
    • Server name: Seanet
    • Phone number
    • If you have call waiting, enter *70, or 70# before the phone number
    • You don't want Dial as long distance or Dial area code marked
    • Connect: Directly
    • User name: SeanetUsername
    • Password: SeanetPassword

  6. Now, click on Connection.
    • Port Speed: Depends on what speed modem you have. Here are the correct settings:
      Modem Port Speed
      14400 38400
      28800 57600
      33600 57600
    • Flow Control: CTS & RTS (DTR)
    • Modem Init String: AT&F or AT&F1

  7. Now click on the Options tab. You do not need to enter anything here. It should look like this:
    • Domain name: I'm not used
    • Primary DNS: Me either
    • Secondary DNS: Ditto

  8. Click OK.
  9. Close the FreePPP Control Panel.
  10. At this point you will need to configure your TCP program. You may have either TCP/IP or MacTCP.
